LAKE RIVERSIDE - One person was hospitalized with critical injuries after a head-on collision in Lake Riverside that required the Jaws of Life to free two patients, a Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman said today.

The collision was reported at 7:05 p.m. on Cahuilla Road (Highway 371) at Lakeshore Boulevard, said fire department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

Two people were trapped, but only one suffered critical injuries, Hagemann said. Two other people suffered minor injuries. All were transported to hospitals for treatment, she said.

The extrications were performed by nine firefighters from two engines, Hagemann said.
