Renowned seismologist Frank Vernon to speak Friday, Nov. 16Friday, November 16th, 2012 Issue 46, Volume 12.
According to NOVA’s website, "Frank Vernon is a Research Seismologist at the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California at San Diego. His current research interests focus on developing distributed, networked, real-time sensor networks on land and underwater. "Vernon is the current director for the US Array Network Facility for the National Science Foundation’s Earth Scope program. Earth Advertisement "Vernon is also Principal Investigator on the ANZA broadband and strong motion seismic network. Since 1982, this network has provided real-time seismic monitoring capability for southernmost California, one of the most active seismic zones in the U.S. As part of this project, he is studying the physics of the earthquake source from local quakes.
